Lokitorrent (and its younger sibling Torrentstop) have reportedly lost their legal battle vs. the MPAA, and have thus been forced to close down. Not only that, but they’ve also been ordered to “provide the MPAA with access to and copies of all logs and server data related to his illegal BitTorrent activities.”
It’s interesting to note that the MPAA actually went to the trouble of having their threatening ads displayed on the frontpage of each site they successfully took down. Talk about rubbing salt on the wound.
Word has it that they’re going to try to take down ED2k networks next, which makes me sad because I don’t think I’ve owned a machine in the past 4 years that didn’t have some version of edonkey installed on it. I can’t remember the last time I actually got something big off of it though — bit-torrent was just too darned convenient. Still, killing ED2k at this point would be like taking down the file-sharing channels on IRC … oh wait, they did that already didn’t they? I wonder if the channels will be making a comeback now that BT is going down.
