I’m currently writing a piece about Van Partible, the filipino creator of Johnny Bravo for Manual magazine and wanted to share this interesting tidbit with all of you. I wrote Van a long email interview and as I had heard rumors about a Johnny Bravo feature film, I asked him about it.
The following is an excerpt from my article:
Currently Van has a short list of other projects that are vying for his attention. One of them is a show about high school that he’s hoping to start production on soon. “I felt that I’ve done enough for the men of the world. I think it’s time for a cool chick.”
The other is a full-length Johnny Bravo feature film — a live-action one to boot. Rumors of this film have been circulating online for quite some time, and Van confirms them readily enough. “The movie will be produced by Neal Moritz (The Fast And The Furious, Sweet Home Alabama, SWAT) and Marty Adelstein of Original Film. I’ll be executive producing and the script will be written by Matthew Berry and Eric Abrams. The story follows Johnny’s adventures as he goes in search for his father.”
And who gets to play the Bravo man? None other than Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
“The coolest thing was that The Rock actually pursued us for the rights to the project,” Van says. “I met with The Rock on the set of The Rundown last year and he’s very excited about the project. I think that it’s perfect casting and I’m excited to see the translation from animation to live action … The first draft of the script should be finished in a couple of weeks. [We’re] hoping for a summer 2005 release.”
Can you smell what the Rock is cookin’, Momma?
